Mission Deferment or Leaving School
Students planning to leave BYU–Hawaii for a mission, personal reasons, or other circumstances should take appropriate steps to ensure a smooth transition and future return.
Types of Leaving School
Depending on your situation, you may need to complete one of the following:
- Mission Deferment – For students leaving to serve a mission
- Leave of Absence (LOA) – For temporary time away from the university
- Full Withdrawal – If you are currently enrolled and need to withdraw from all classes (see Full Withdrawal section)
Each option has different academic, financial, and administrative implications.
Before You Leave
Students are strongly encouraged to:
- Meet with an academic advisor to review degree progress and plan for return
- Review your Academic Plan in Workday
- Contact Financial Aid to understand the impacts on scholarships, grants, or loans
- Resolve any holds or outstanding obligations
- Consult with International Student Services if applicable
Workday Actions
Depending on your situation, you may need to:
- Submit a request or update your status in Workday Student
- Withdraw from current courses (if enrolled)
- Confirm your enrollment status for the current semester
Failure to complete the required steps in Workday may impact your academic record or ability to return.
Returning to BYU–Hawaii
Students who leave the university will need to follow the appropriate re-enrollment or readmission process. Requirements may vary based on the length and type of absence.
